About Sanwen
Sanwen (三問, “three questions”) is a free little site. Each day it answers three questions for you: draw a fortune stick, turn over a tarot card and cast an I Ching hexagram, then read them together as one gentle reminder for the day. Add your birth details and it also casts your Four Pillars chart and suggests the day’s elements and zodiac themes.
Where the content comes from
- Fortune sticks: 60 original modern verses written for this site, not a traditional temple set.
- Tarot: all 78 cards, with upright and reversed meanings and suggestions written for this site; the card faces are the original 1909 Rider–Waite–Smith deck, drawn by Pamela Colman Smith and now in the public domain.
- I Ching: the 64 hexagrams in King Wen order, with our plain English renderings of the Zhouyi judgments and readings written for this site.
How it works
- Sticks, cards and hexagrams use your browser’s built-in cryptographic randomness; hexagrams follow the real odds of the three-coin method.
- No sign-up. Your name, birth details and daily results stay on your own device; we cannot see them and nothing is uploaded.
- The site can be installed as a phone app and works offline.
How it is kept running
Everything on Sanwen is free. It is paid for by Google ads on the site and by readers’ voluntary small donations. If Sanwen has brought you some insight, you are welcome to buy us a coffee.
